Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, is one of the largest in Eastern Europe and one of the oldest in the country. It is the “Jerusalem of Europe” as it was called at the turn of the century. The city is famous for Baroc-style architecture, world-class churches, monuments, and museums. The top sights include Gedimino Prospektas, Higher Castle Museum, and Cathedral Square. Vilnius is proud of the remains of the old culture in the historical centre of the city, ranked among the largest in Eastern Europe and listed as a World Heritage Site. Kaunas is another interesting Lithuanian destination; it is the second city of the country. The most amazing place in the city is the area around the Town Hall, full of old merchant houses, built in the 16th century. The Town Hall itself is worth visited. The remains of the Kaunas Castle provide the tourists with the opportunity to absorb the history of the city. Do not miss the Devil's Museum (official name is the A. Žmuidzinavičius Art Museum). Among its exhibits there are various devil figures. Kaunas is a city of the universities; it houses most of Lithuanian universities. The third largest city of the country and the most important port is Klaipeda. Start the excursion from its center - the Theatre Square, named after the Neoclassical theatre. In front of the theatre there is the fountain of Anna, a popular place to make photos. Klaipeda is full of museums, such as Maritime Museum, the History Museum of Lithuania Minor, the Post Office, built in the 19th century, and the Clock Museum. The sea is the main peculiarity, which attracts tourists to Klaipeda, so the beaches of the city are usually crowed. Palanga and Neringa are considered to be popular beach destinations in Lithuania. Panevezys can not be fully called the tourists paradise, but it is famous all over the world, because of its theatres, among which Panevezys Drama Theatre and Puppet Theatre.
