Lithuanian Cuisine

As a rule, the tourists are impressed by Lithuanian food. National cuisine is based on a wide variety of cheeses, cold meats and very tasty cakes. The diversity of dishes, from potatoes to meat, characterizes local cuisine. Potato is a main ingredient of the majority of dishes, such as Kugelis (a potato pudding) and Shvilpicai (potato sticks). Zeppelin (dumpling, filled with meat or a smoked suet) is the most well-known Lithuanian dish. It is usually accompanied by special gravy with sour cream and mushrooms. Cheese is called the product number one in the country. The kinds of Lithuanian cheese are countless. The locals are proud of their wild berries and mushrooms, used as desserts or the filling of the pies.
